Cheering at The Big Half 2025

This weekend I swapped running shoes for the sidelines, and honestly, it was an experience I’ll never forget. It was my very first time cheering at a race, and I didn’t expect it to feel this powerful.

Usually, I’m the one nervously pinning on a bib, going through my mental checklist of gels, playlists, and pacing strategies. But standing on the other side, I realised just how much energy, love, and encouragement flows between runners and supporters. The atmosphere was electric. Every shout, clap, and wave felt like fuelling someone’s stride.

I went along to represent @blackgirlsdorunuk, but it was also a joy to see and cheer for so many other communities that inspire me: @sheruns, @sexypacerunclub, and @runnersandstunners. As a woman, it was deeply uplifting to see how strong and visible these communities are — creating space, representation, and support in a sport that can sometimes feel isolating.

The Big Half 2025 was more than just a race, it was a reminder of what the running community is all about: togetherness, strength, and joy. Whether you’re clocking miles or clapping from the curb, you’re part of something much bigger.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. In fact, I’d say cheering is almost as good as running (and maybe even a little easier on the knees!).

Here’s to more runs, more cheers, and more community. See you on the course, or maybe by the barriers with some confetti in hand🎉
